Description:
Country Pine Single Commode, Ca. 1880. Old American country style, solid pine, single door commode w gallery. One drawer over one panel door and one interior shelf. Thumbnail molded edge on top and gallery board. Scroll shaped apron between bracket style feet. Scroll shaped gallery board. Square nails. Knobs are wood screw type and appear to be original walnut knobs showing quite a bit of hand wear. Door latch is copper over cast iron and is very old, likely original and also shows much wear. Warm honey color w satin finish. Older refinish refurbished by us. Very good condition. This piece was designed to hold a chamber pot below for nighttime bathroom visits and usually had a wash bowl and pitcher sitting on top. Ca.: 1880’s.
