Description: Old Master oil on cradled panel Cornelis Van Poelenburgh (1586-1667). This Dutch painting is a wonderful extremely high quality painting in superb condition. It depicts Nymphs capturing a Satyr. One of the women is directing the others to tie the satyr up. The colors are very vibrant. The detail and quality rival the finest of this artist's works. The painting has an important provenance coming from Costello DiGiove Umbria, Italy. It was in this family collection for over 100 years. This important discovery will be a highlight to any Dutch Old Master collection. Another oil on panel painting by this artist sold at Sotheby's New York, Friday, January 28, 2000 Lot 33 for $74,000. The painting we are offering is a much more interesting subject and a much more desirable example of this artist's work. Image size 16 inches wide by 12 inches high. Frame size 25 inches wide by 20 inches high. The back of the painting has old wax royal seals and collection information including Poelenburgh's name in script and a 19th century label identifying the work as Poelenburgh 1568-1667 Dutch Old Master having works exhibited in the Louvre Museum.
