Description:
This fine and comprehensive service for twelve persons is fited to a three drawer lift up lid and well oak canteen box. The box has a blue velvet lined interior. The service consists of: 12 dinner knives, 12 dessert knives, 12 dinner forks, 12 dessert forks, 12 table spoons, 12 dessert spoons, 12 teaspoons, 2 gravy spoons, 1 caddy spooon, 1 mustard spoon, 4 salt spoons, 1 serving ladle, 2 sauce ladles, Grape shears, Tongs. This service has the benefit of retaining the original knives which have all been rebladed. There is an engraved crest of a full-fronted winged helmet surmounted by a dagger to the front of each knife handle. Makers: Knives: Francis Higgins II, London - 1855. All Flatware: Francis Higgins III, London - 1861. Six Table Spoons: George Maudley Jackson, London - 1895. (These spooons are an exact pattern match and identical size to the others). This is a very fine service which is an extremely good gauge of silver, fine quality and in exceptional condition. All the pieces are hallmarked and all the hallmarks are very clear.
