Description: My grandmother used to say: 'WHAT'S SECOND IS THIRD'. If that's true, we are due to add another Forestville clock to our inventory pretty soon. This one comes just after listing one a few days ago and it's a REALLY colorful and eye-appealing clock !! The door glasses are all original with wavy panes. The upper glass demonstrates this with a few 'seeds' in the glass. The middle door glass has an exotic bird painted on it. It's reminiscent of the type birds that the Pennsylvania 'Dutch' paint on their Hex signs. The pattern surrounding the bird is deep blue with yellow accents and that same color scheme carries through on the lower door glass which has been professionally restored by the Master of reverse painting---Lee Davis in York, Pa. Inside the case is a readable FORESTVILLE MFGR CO. lable, above which is a paper engraving of a Victorian lady. (see photograph.)I doubt that the Forestville people originally added her to the clock but it's clearly as old as the case. The eight-day strap brass movement runs and strike the hours on a coil gong. The Forestville Manufacturing Company had a long and illustrious history, passing through several owners from Elias Ingraham and J.C. Brown and S.B. Smith plus Chauncey Goodridge, Chauncey Boardman and William Hills. It finally became the Sessions Clock Company. This fine looking example of their larger mantle clocks is a real treasure. COMPARE OUR PRICES....WE KEEP THEM LOWER THAN OTHERS DUE TO CAREFUL MANAGEMENT.
