Description:
A fine robust coin beaker by John & William Mott, New York, NY c.1789. Here is a form of constuction very rarely found and also very rarely appreciated. The body is raised from one piece of coin silver sheet, with the foot and rim added . Normally, the body is formed from one piece and seamed down the side, then a round base is soldered on, followed by the rim and foot.. This is a far more skilful and demanding method. The Mott's are entered in Kovels and Ensko as working c.1789. Over what period I cannot say. In very goiod condition. No damage or monogram. Dimensions: 3.5" high, 3.25" diameter. Weight 4.89 Troy oz.
