Description: Coalport China 8 7/8" Plate Indian Tree vintage pattern multicolor & scalloped. This is free from any chips or cracks. The mark underneath (shown in the image) indicates the date of manufacture to be 1891-1920. According to records,The firm was sold in 1799 to John Rose who had founded a ceramic manufacture at Coalport, a village on the bank of the River Severn. In 1820 he received the Gold Medal of the Royal Society of Arts for a new felspar china with leadless glaze, a discovery which was a major life-saver as well as a fillip to business.
