Description:

The subtle turning of horses on a pathway is the focus of this lovely print, portraying the gentle beauty of these animals.

Artist: Christine Picavet Title: Turning Left Medium: Lithograph Image Size: 18 x 23 Sheet Size: 23 x 28 1/2 inches Signed in pencil, lower rightNumbered from an edition of 600 Excellent condition; never mounted, matted or framed Certificate of Authenticity included

Christine Picavet was born in 1951 in Paris, France, and grew up in Villard de Lans, a ski resort in the Alps.  Having grown up in an artistic family, and developing a passion for horses at an early age, it made sense that Picavet would become an equine artist.  After showing horses and becoming a riding instructor, Christine moved to Chantilly where she worked for the top racing stables in France while painting Thoroughbred horses.

After moving to New York, she continued to work as an exercise rider, but it was here that she received her first commissions to paint famous horses.  Eventually Picavet moved to Southern California where she worked for Hall of Fame trainer Charles Whittingham while her reputation as an equine artist grew.  She married an equine veterinarian (you might say, she picked a vet), and in 1980, when expecting her son Eric, she ended a decade of riding race horses to become a full-time equine artist.

After painting race horses for twenty-five years, Christine expanded her subjects to include western scenes, wildlife and animal portraits. Twice she has studied with leading Western artist Howard Terpning at the Cowboy Artists of America Museum.

In 2004, the International Museum of the Horse at the Kentucky Horse Park honored the artist with a one woman show entitled, Thoroughbred Champions, Mustangs & A Cowboy Life: The Art of Christine Picavet

Her paintings hang in numerous museums, corporations, race tracks, country clubs and private collections worldwide. Many have enjoyed successful editions as prints and have graced books, calendars, racing programs, home products and numerous magazine covers in North and South America, Europe, and South Africa.
