Description: Hand-carved monkey wood Asian Statutes. Depiction of Royal Family. Emperor and Empress with gold trim robes. Three Dimensional statues. Lovely Pair. Height: appx 24" Base" 5-1/2" Mint condition. Color is natural rich wood color. Appears to be a Monkey Wood. Light, soft wood. There is a frontal crack that seems to be part of the Emperor's base but does not distract from its elegance.

Asian, Japanese and Chinese Wood carving is an art form which includes any kind of sculpture in wood, from the decorative bas-relief on small objects to life-size figures in the round, furniture, and architectural and decorative arts. Circa unknown. No Hallmarks.
