Description:
One of the many books from the Estate of Francis P. Fretwell that we will be selling. The library is the largest privately owned collection of dog books in the world. Mr. Fretwell was the owner of Monfret Kennels, which bred champion standard poodles. He was former president and governor of the Poodle Club of America, and the Italian Greyhound Club of America. He also served as a delegate to the American Kennel Club for decades. His wonderful collection of books has been carefully maintained A Chinaman in Sussex by Andrew Soutar. Published in London by Hutchinson & Co. Ltd. 1931. First Edition. Illustrated with 29 photos. This is not a "breed" book, but a fasinating look at the Pekingese, his personality, intellegence, attitude, etc. Very interesting, an enjoyable read. Book is in Very Good condition, except for the loss of color to the edge of the cover. Bookplate of Francis Fretwell.
