Beautifully engraved specimen certificate from the Chevron Corporation. This historic document was printed by the American Banknote Company and has an ornate border around it with a vignette of two allegorical men by an oil field with an underprint of the Chevron Logo. Certificate Vignette 1900 Pacific Coast Oil Company merged with the Standard Oil group of companies run by John D. Rockefeller. 1906 Standard Oil Company (California) The name of the Company was changed to Standard Oil Company (California). 1911 Standard Oil (California) Breakup of the Rockefeller monopoly, leaving the former Pacific Coast Oil Co. as an independent firm under the name Standard Oil (California). 1926 Standard Oil Company of California Merger of business interests with the Pacific Oil Company, a division of Southern Pacific Railroad Company, and the Company was incorporated in Delaware as Standard Oil Company of California 1931 The first "chevron" emblem A three-bar chevron is chosen to identify the Company's service stations. 1941 The "Chevron" used on more and more products. "It's the Standard Chevron -- a design as old as heraldry and as honorable as knighthood." (Standard Oil Bulletin, March, 1941) 1945 Winged "V" During Word War II the famous "winged V" was adopted for the fourth letter in "Chevron," to suggest the Company's deep commitment to the war effort 1953 Chevron Oil Company The first operating company, a geophysical research subsidiary incorporated in Delaware, took the Chevron name - Chevron Oil Company. 1955 The Company adopted the Chevron hallmark as a uniform symbol for all the product packages sold by its operating companies. 1967-1968 Lippincott and Margulies was retained to study the entire application, use and design of the Chevron hallmark 1984-1989 Chevron hallmark The majority of the Company's operations and products were using the "Chevron" name; on 7/1/84, Standard Oil Company of California was changed to Chevron Corporation. Based in San Ramon, Calif., Chevron Products Co. is one of the largest refiners and marketers of petroleum products in the United States. With six refineries and 7,900 retail outlets, it serves customers in 29 states - - primarily in the West, Southwest and South. It is also one of the top three asphalt sellers in the nation, a product supplied by two additional asphalt refineries in Willbridge, Ore., and Perth Amboy, N.J.
