Description: This exceptional still life oil painting dates from the 19th century, and is believed to be of French or Dutch origin. Depicted in this work is a spilled basket of lucious red cherries and three glass cruets. We have not found a signature. Canvas is nicely crackled, consistent with its age. Wonderfully ornate, giltwood and gesso frame is of the period. During a recent move, one corner was damaged considerably. Roughly 1/2 to 2/3 of the pieces from the damage have been retained and could be utilized in restoration. We intend to complete frame restoration at our expense following the sale. Canvas was relined a long time ago, likely in the early 20th century. Frame measures 33 7/8" by 28" by 3 3/4" and canvas measures 26" by 20 3/4". Weighs 11 lbs. Imported from Hungary roughly five years ago by our client, the rear of the canvas bears an export seal of approval from Hungarian customs.
