Description: This clock's attractive "chalet-style" case has a very well-made 30-hour time-only movement. The paper label inside the case is perfectly preserved (see photograph) and includes the motto: 'TIME IS MONEY' and 'E PLURIBUS UNUM'. The metal dial retains its original paint which has had a moderate amount of touch-ups. This little beauty was made in the Black Forest and intended for the American market. That would explain the inclusion of the quintessentially American maxim on the label. The movement runs perfectly and other than a small chip off the rear of the roof---where it really doesn't show unless you're looking for it...this is an almost perfectly preserved example of a sweetheart of a shelf or mantle clock that will grace any room where it is displayed. The first photograph shows the clock on a wall shelf which is not included with the clock.NOTE: A FELLOW CLOCK COLLECTOR CONTACTED US TO SAY THAT THIS PARTICULAR LABEL WAS USED BY THE GERMAN CLOCKMAKING COMPANY: "GEBRUDER JUNGHANS" IN THE BLACK FOREST AROUND 1891. THEY PUT THIS LABEL ONTO THEIR CLOCKS THAT WERE INTENDED FOR EXPORT TO AMERICA WHERE THE PATRIOTIC SYMBOLISM WOULD SURELY HAVE GREAT APPEAL. AN ARTICLE ABOUT THIS VERY LABEL DESIGN IS FOUND IN A BOOK WITH THE GERMAN TITLE "LEXICON DER DEUTSCHEN UHRENINDUSTRIE" (Inventory of the German Clockmaking Industry), BY AN AUTHOR NAMED SCHMID. We are always pleased to receive this kind of information about our clocks. And that reveals that this is a charming little GERMAN cottage clock....which explains why it runs so well, keeping almost perfect time.
