Signed lower right: "Charlotte Livingston". Inscribed in ink paper verso: "Stationmaster's Garden ay Piermont June 24 1951". Dimensions: Paper: 14 x 20in. Weight: 4oz. (Box F) Condition: Slight darkening to paper throughout. Light soiling to surface throughout. Tape/adhesive residue and staining along paper edges verso from prior mounting. Otherwise, very good condition overall. Artist's Biography: Acquired directly from the estate of Charlotte Livingston (1898-1991), America. Born in New York City in 1898, Charlotte Livingston attended the National Academy of Design, the Arts Students League and Columbia University. She worked mostly in watercolors and exhibited widely in the New York City area. She was the recipient of numerous prizes including the Bronx Museum Award and the Mary Yates Medal in 1972, as well as other honorable mentions. Livingston was a member of the Bronx Artists Guild, the Yonkers Art Association, and the American Artists Professional League. She also had a career as an arts administrator. From 1959-1972 she was the director of the Kingsbridge Historical. Society and the President of the Bronx Artists Guild and Gotham Painters. Her work is in the collection of the Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan, the Jumel Mansion, NY; the Hickory Museum of Art, NC; and the Greenville Museum, NC. Married to the painter Francis Vandeveer Kughler, Livingston resided for most of her life in the Bronx, New York.
