Description:
This is a fabulous treen or turned wood lace bobbin with pyrography and hand painting that has the added appeal of being a piece of British Royal memorabilia commemorating the Royal Wedding in 1981 of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer, later known as Princess Dianna of Princess Di, sewing memorabilia and folk art. The turned wood lace making shuttle or bobbin used in making bobbin lace (what a surprise!) measures 4.5 inches long, has alternating clear and pale blue faceted crystal beads with a blue marbled central glass bead and has a dedication in the folk art called Pyrography or wood burning with a hand painted design of silver bells and flowers. The inscription, bells and flowers have been done with a hot needle or stylus which indents the lettering and colors the wood as it oxidizes. The dedication says Royal Wedding Of Charles And Diana 29 July '81 St. Paul's. The inscription can be felt as well as seen. This is a wonderful cross collectible for fans of royal memorabilia as well as sewing collectibles. I have included a photo of bobbins being used from a lace website. The lace bobbin is in excellent, mint condition.
