Description: R. Beard’s wonderful charcoal drawing of Charlie Chaplin is a lovely homage to one of the most influential figures in entertainment industry history. He had the foresight to team up with fellow actors to form United Artists and gain creative control of his own projects at a time when studios gave little freedom to actors. The piece is signed at dated in the lower left by the artist reading, “R. Beard, ’37.” Nineteen thirty-seven was a big year for Chaplin and this drawing seems to capture him at the height of his success. His newest release, “Modern Times,” was a huge hit and proved to be one of Chaplin’s greatest and most memorable film roles. This wonderful drawing was rendered in fine detail as we see Chaplin, out of costume, holding a mischievous smile. The piece has been matted in simple black to accentuate the high contrast of the charcoal against the light paper and mounted in a sleek silver frame for classic sophistication. Including the gorgeous frame this piece measures 14 ¼” x 18 ¼.” The unique matting and framing presentation of this piece was individually selected and created by Le Chateau’s renowned master framer, Jeanette Shoenrock, and bears her signature on the back. This is truly a wonderful work of art that would be the perfect gift for any collector of Chaplin memorabilia, and priced at such a bargain it is too good a deal to pass up!
