Description:
This is a rarely seen 10" mitre square marked "Challenge Cutlery Corp. Bridgeport Conn. Patented 1904". The tool is clean and rust free, but has had rust pitting on it in years gone by, so some blacked staining, and minor pitting noted. We note some minor scratches, but otherwise all the working surfaces are in very good shape. The inch increment can still be seen on one side, the other side with no markings. The guide lips are on both side for both shown and reverse mitres can be set by pushing the square up to the work piece edge. The lip is 1/4" high. A old version of the miter squares seen new on the market today are made of aluminum in many cases, this one is all steel, with a nice polished finish. In good useable condition overall. We find this one to be very similar to a later patented miter square "FOX's", that was patented in 1921. This one has an extra thick rail in the area connecting the 45 degree angle section to the graduated section, otherwise basically identical by comparison.
