Description: A wonderful carved wood mask, made for the tourist market in the 1950’s. It would have been used as a ceremonial mask. The face is carved wood and it is surrounded by a padded fabric “frame� which has been stitched together with heavy cord, adorned with cowrie shells, and painted red. The red paint has been partly worn away. The cowrie shells are now banned as an import in the U.S. The mask would have only been used by the male segment of the tribe. The mask measures 14� x 11� and is good condition. Please note: I include postage, insurance and delivery confirmation in the final cost of the item.
