Description: Antique hand-woven Ikat from a back strapped loom originating from the Sea Dayak people of Sarawak, Borneo. In native language, it is called Pua Kumbu and is very rare. The textile is dyed from native vegetable dyes and remained still vivid, with minor discolorations over the years. Most of these antique Ikats are damaged by the insects, however, this textile is intact. It is made from 2 longitudinal hand woven on a back strapped loom and sewn together. The art of hand weaving is an art destined for extinction, due to the tremendous amount of time and skills needed for creating one piece of textile. The design is never sketched, rather memorized by the artist who creates the art textile. This textile has a design of masks that are highly stylized. Size: 90" X 76.5" (219 cm. X 194 cm.). Estimated value: $7000.
