Description:
Authentic, very large Caucasian KUBA / SHIRVAN SHIELD CARPET, 6'10" x 9'4". Entirely handmade in the Caucasus from all-natural dyes and pure hand-spun wool.
Shield Carpets are the ultimate, and probably the most collectable of all Caucasian rugs. Fragments of antique shield carpets have brought in excess of $60,000 at auction.
This one-of-a-kind rug is part of our "Historic Museum Collection." It is likely that this is the first time a Shield Carpet has been authenticallly produced in nearly 300 years. It's either this rug or a museum.
Though many of the originals had silk foundations, this was done with wool. Silk is not practical for everyday use.
So there is absolutely no confusion, this is a new rug. IT IS NOT AN ANTIQUE. However, it was made using the same methods, materials, techniques, and traditions as its antique counterpart, and was made in the same location, Kuba.
