Description:
Wall fixture consists of the bracket arm, wall mount and the kerosene jar. This was stored in a barn for over 60 years, so it needs restoration. The detail on the casting is lovely, and in the Eastlake design. Hand-molded glass. Can be used with the wall bracket or set on shelf or table. Bracket swings to either side, stays level and doesn't wobble and metal is sound. Adjustable locking nut is frozen, but an oil soak should loosen it. No chimney or mercury reflector, but can be purchased or other restoration places. The old burner was electrified many years ago, and will be included with the purchase to show vintage, but will have to be replaced to restore lamp to a functioning kerosene lamp. The bracket and glass fixture, however, are the most important parts. Price is firm.
HISTORY: Eastlake style had low relief carvings, moldings, incised lines, geometric ornaments, and flat surfaces that were easy to keep clean. It is amazing how much was credited to Eastlake, yet the man never designed or made anything. He just talked and wrote about simplifying design.
