Description:
A Fine Cased Pair of Early Flintlock Duelling Pistols by Durs Egg, London, Circa 1780. The pistols have rebrowned twist round to octagonal sighted barrels each engraved with the makers name and address on the top flat: ’D. EGG. LONDON’ , London proofs and deeply engraved tangs. They have flat, plain locks engraved with the maker’s name in signature style. The pistols have rainproof pans with deeply engraved hammers and safety catches. The internal working parts retain their original finish. The pistols are full stocked in walnut with iron mounts; comprising finely decorated trigger guard with pineapple finial, turned ramrod-pipes and deeply engraved butt cap. The pistols have original horn-tipped ramrods with worms. The pistols are cased in original lined fitted brass mounted mahogany case with all accessories. The label on the case reads: ‘Egg, Gun maker to their Royal Highness the Prince of Wales Duke of York &e &e. Corner of Coventry Street HAYMARKET’.
