Description:
This is a pretty carved wood statue of Kwan Yin. Kwan Yin (also spelled Kwan Yin or Quan Yin and known as Kuan Shih Yin), is known as the Goddess of Compassion & Healing. She is one of the most popular deities in all of Asia. Her name in Chinese roughly translates as "The One who Hears the Cries of the World". She is the most beloved and revered of the Chinese dieties. Kuan Yin is the Divine Mother we all long for: merciful, tender, compassionate, loving, protecting, caring, healing, and wise. She quietly comes to the aid of her children everywhere. Her mantra is 'Om Mani Padme Hum.' (that is, 'Hail the Jewel -or pearl- in the Lotus.') I know that it is at least from about 1945 as my mother-in-law brought it back with her after living in Japan after World War II. There is a slight split in the wood in the very back, but it does not compromise the integrity of the statue. Based on other statues that look similar with similar colors (green, gold, maroon, blue) and the same type of light wood, I think it may be substantially older. Please come back often as we are adding many new items, including estate jewelry, sterling silver, gardening items, home accessories, lamps, etc. Please email if you have questions. Happy Shopping!
