Most Mission Tile patterns are 4 tiles grouped to create striking repeating designs. A wide variaty of border tiles and solid colors tiles are also available to create still striking, yet more economical floor and wall coverings. The 5/8" thickness of these tiles makes them compatible as inlays or details combined with other materials such as hardwood, stone and terracota flooring. Our color pallette offers over 40 different colors. You may also create your signature by customizing these simple to complex patterns to your own color specifications. TILE DESCRIPTION All of our tiles are built with three layers that can be seen in a crossection view. The first layer: The wear layer or tile face is a mixture of highly resistant Portland white cement, powdered white marble and colorants. Wear resistance, color and brightness rely on the quality of this layer. Any cement tiles are glazed. The second layer: It is a mortar made of fine sand and standard Portland gray cement. For tile manufacturing, this mortar is applied as a base and reinforces the first layer, providing the ability to withstand compression loads which some times may be high for the finished product. The third layer: Is a porous mixture with the required thickness for impact strength before and after installation. A good tile should be absolutely compact & waterproof, tiles are not glazed, which is accomplished by using mixtures rich in high quality cement, mechanically mixed and manufactured under high pressure. In addition, a thorough curing process is used. This product is 100% hand crafted, paying attention to individual design and color specifications. The tile is not a pollutant because it is manufactured with 100% natural materials. The tile does not contain any lead, is not flammable and is 100% recyclable. Tiles are fresh in hot weather places and are not slippery to the bare foot. Tiles can be manufactured to any design, shape, size or color. Coloring materials are all natural too. Quality control is performed on an individual basis (piece by piece) not by production lot. APPLICATIONS Tiles may be used to cover floors, walls, table tops, counter tops, swimming pools, facades, etc. either in-doors or outdoors. To be outdoors or in a pool it has to be protected with a seal base in acrylic, avoid chlorine and acid products. Tiles may be designed to accommodate any architectural style such as Spanish colonial, Santa Fe, or Moorish, to name a few. However, any unique style requirements can be fulfilled. Rough: outdoor and in-door applications. Engraved: outdoor and in-door applications. All cement tiles may suffer color tone changes due to marble nature which is not uniform. Care must be taken when using oils, greases or varnish as tiles may stain. Tiles should be protected by a layer of rubber, plastic, paper, resin or polyform. INSTALLATION The traditional way of laying these tiles is using the butt joint technique, edge against edge. Tiles can easily be cut with a diamond-saw wheel. For the joints, you can use a grout in the same color as the tiles. Laying of the tiles: A) Make sure that the surface on which the tiles are to be laid is perfectly level and clean. B) Apply adhesive mortar on both the surface as well as the tile and spread it a 100% with the notched trowel. C) Lay the tiles with the hands, taking care not to damage the edges. Do not use a rubber hammer or any other instrument to hit the tiles, but press them in place with hands. D) It is important to rinse, with clean water, any residue of mortar remaining on the surface of the tile, before it dries. E) Do not step on the tiles before the mortar has dried. This takes a day or two. Applying the grout: A) Prepare the grouting paste, adding the powder to water. The consistency should not be too liquid, but fluid enough to fill the joints. B) Wash the surface of the tiles with the fat soap foam. This prevents the grout paste from smearing the surface of the untreated tile. Before it dries, pour the grout paste over the joints, and with the help of a rubber scraper, spread the grout paste in order to fill up the joints. You should move the rubber scraper at an angle to the joint. C ) Remove any grout paste residue on the surface of the tiles before it dries. D) Let the tiles dry well, this will take several days depending on the climatic conditions. Protect the tiles, while other construction works are going on in the room. Basic Treatment: Tiles are delivered untreated. In order to protect the tiles, it is very important that they be correctly treated, with a watertight sealer for indoor use or an acrylic sealer for out-doors or pools, which will also help to avoid staining. Make sure that the tiles are completely dry, and have recovered their original colour. Several products on the market guarantee total protection. Application instructions of the products should be followed carefully. If you consider using an alternative product, remember that the tiles should be treated as marble or limestone. Please test the product before application, as some products alter the original colors of the tiles. If desired, wax can be applied for a more silky finish.
