Artist : Anonymous The first known CPR poster was printed in 1883. Since then, thousands of brochures, posters, menus, advertisements and other items have been created to promote travel, immigration and settlement, war efforts, freight traffic and other services provided by the company. In early years, CPR sponsored artists - both well-known and emerging talent - by providing railway passes to take them to scenic locations along the line, and CPR had the option to purchase works produced from these trips. In later years, CPR commissioned artists and even employed full-time graphic artists in the company's studio in Montreal. WE HAVE NEVER SEEN AN AD FOR AIR CARGO WHICH WAS AS MEMORABLE AS THIS ONE! Air freight isnt a very exciting concept, yet the unknown designer of this poster managed - with a very limited color palette - to come up with something which was striking, amusing, and memorable. This poster is mentioned and listed in Marc Choko's definitive book on Canadian Pacific posters. $850 Poster measures 25 x 40 inches, is in excellent condition and is linen backed.
