Table of Contents

The listings have been expanded and updated, keeping the book the most comprehensive work available in its field. All changeover prefixes for Bank of Canada notes have now been listed and individually priced, completing a process which began modestly several years ago with the 1937 issue. There is significant demand for the changeover prefixes, resulting in premium pricing. Proofs and other non-circulating forms of Nova Scotia provincial treasury notes for which there has been recent market activity are now catalogued. Based on recently discovered documentary evidence, a new 1954 $2 test note, within prefix E/R, has been recognized. In the special numbers section, rotator notes have now been listed and priced for the present Canadian Journey series. These are notes whose serial numbers remain the same when turned upside down, and they are scarcer than two-digit radar notes. As usual, the catalogue has been updated to record the most recent releases and insert replacement note discoveries.

Canadian Journey notes are now listed by printing date, in response to a good suggestion received from a reader.

Canadian paper money has enjoyed a briskly rising market for the past several years which continues to be reflected in the 19th edition. The 1866 Province of Canada issues have moved ahead strongly. Values for Dominion of Canada notes continue their advance, if somewhat selectively. Popular and better grade notes, not surprisingly, show the greatest strength.

The exquisite and popular 1935 Bank of Canada notes continue their ascent to ever greater pricing heights, for practically all denominations and grades. The 1937 issue is in demand with broadly based price advances, the scarcer Osborne-Towers notes moving up rather sharply.

Replacement notes continue to perform well, and while the pace of the advances may have moderated slightly, there is one outstanding performer which has quadrupled in price over the past year. While not all replacement prefixes have increased in price, the increases have applied to a broader spectrum of grades, rather than being confined mainly to AU and UNC notes as has often been the case in previous editions. Modern insert replacement notes have shown broad advances.

Radar notes and other special number notes continue to increase in price, as demand remains strong. Several kinds of error notes also continue to gain ground among specialist collectors. Actual decreases are relatively few, although some of the regular issue Bank of Canada notes which remain in oversupply have undergone further retrenchment. On the other hand, some of the last prefixes of the 2001 $10 Journey issue, whose scarcity could not even be imagined one year ago, are now listed at amazingly high prices.

Whether for buying or selling, or just keeping pace with developments in the hobby, collectors will not want to be without this new edition.
