Description:
This is an antique English butter chip or butter pat made from 1880-1890s with a pretty gold floral swag border design on white ironstone in Staffordshire, England. The butter pat measures 3.25 inches in diameter is in very good +++ condition with no chips, cracks or gold wear but does have visible crazing. The butter pat, or butter chips make wonderful teabag caddies now, which is what the English owner of the collection I acquired had used it for, or fro jam, sauce or sugar lumps for the tea table. I have seen them used for sushi as well.
