Description:
Bulova was a very prolific manufacturer and they made excellent watches that almost everyone could afford. What made them popular was their innovative styling and good looks. This particular Bulova was the "Cadillac" of their line in the 1950's! The black, starburst dial was a real hit then, and even today it is quite unusual. The 23 jewel, automatic movement, made by Bulova was a very high grade accomplishment that is still highly respected! The watch has been completely restored and is running superbly. Just look at the case! It's very clean. Look at the waterproof screw-down back - this tells the real story. This is not a watch that has been used and abused!
What makes it so cool-looking is the "Starburst Dial". The surface texture catches the light and makes it look very mysterious. The contrast of the stainless steel case and the silver hands make it dramatic and quite handsome. The lugs are a very unusual shape and add to the boldness of the piece. Take a look at the double arrowhead markers at 12 and the corresponding single arrowhead markers at the 3 and the 9. The remaining chapters have pyramidal siIver markers that make for great eye appeal.
I was looking over our masterwatchmakers shoulder as he completed the final oiling and assembly and was quite impressed with how nice the movement in this watch is. It was lovingly cared for over the years and shows very little wear. As he put the watch on our timing machine I watched to see what the pattern would tell us about its performance. It was near perfect and timed out to within 2 seconds per day in all positions. A great timing record for a watch that costs far less than more prestigeous brands costing far more!
