Description:
This is a true Builder's Half Model of the Fishing Dragger "Josephine" built by Frank Jesse and his son's Abe and David in 1943. This was the largest boat built in the Jesse Yard, measuring 75 feet in length. It was so large it had to be moved outside to be finished. The Jesse family has been building and servicing commercial and recreational boats since the early 1900's. Frank Jesse emigrated to Plymouth, Mass from the Azores as a young boy. Two of Frank Jesse's great-grandson's still have boatyards and marina's in Plymouth. Son Dave helped recreate the hull of the 17th century Pilgrim vessel "Sparrow Hawk" from it's shipwrecked timbers for the Pilgrim Hall Museum in 1952. The model of the "Josephine" consists of 12 separate lifts pegged together as was the custom. Each lift can still be separated to reveal detailed specifications as written by the Jesse's. The model is in untouched condition. Included are original glossy photos of Frank and his sons, the vessel in various stages of construction and launching as well as underway. Also included is a history of the Jesse boatbuilding family and highlights of their careers. The model represents a wonderful period of American boat building history in general and New England builders specifically. The model measures approx. 41" long X 6" wide X 8 " high.
