Description:
BRUNO ZACH (1891-1935)was born in Austria and renowned for his many bronze sculptures, especially those of his tall, athletic women in bronze and ivory. Many of his works portray the seamy side of Berlin's nightlife in the 1920s and 1930s. He worked for Argentor-Werke of Vienna, The Brome Companie, S. Altman & Co., and the famous Franz Bergmann. He produced sophisticated women in leather trouser suits and flapper dress, couples dancing the tango, and some erotic figures as well. Some of his figures were adapted as lamps, often with cameo glass shades. His signature B ZACH is sometimes found, as it is on the base of this figure of a flapper with attitude, her hand on her hip and holding a cigarette. Dimensions: 9-3/4 inches in height inclduing green onyx base; the bronze is 8-5/8 inches tall. This is a terrific piece for the discriminating collector by one of Austria's best known Art Deco bronze sculptors.
