Description: Vintage 7/8 - 1" diameter brass Good For token. Marked Good for 10¢ or 25¢ in merchandise and J D on the reverse. These show significant aging. I picked them up at the flea market in Springfield, Ohio. The seller had gotten them from a local estate sale and didn't know anything about them. My first thought was that maybe the J D stood for "Jefferson Davis" (president of the confederacy) and that these were civil war era. However, I've had a couple of "experts" look at them who said they thought this was more of a style they used in the 1920s and 30s. I did some research and found that this type and style was made during both time periods and the South did issue similar tokens during the civil war. Hoewever, I cannot find any confirmation that they made any marked J D. In the unlikely event these would turn out to be civil war relics, they are probably quite valuable.
