Description: Brass vesta match holder (Vesta’s were the English wax matches), with striker panel on the end. Opens by pressing down on the oval lid panel. Measures 12 mm thick, 48 mm long and 35 mm wide (1/2 inch by 1.7/8 inch by 1.3/8 inches). Very good condition. Lid doesn’t quite close flush, but I’m not sure it ever was meant to, since there is no nub to catch on. It is quite secure and doesn’t open without being pushed from above. Very attractive case, and quite an unusual one. Circa late 19th or very early 20th century.
