Description:
This is a very unusual item with a long ornate carved ivory handle. I have discovered this is called a pan iron. The pan is made of embossed brass and has a flat bottom. It was designed to hold hot coles for ironing. The pan measures 6 1/2 inches by 5 inches. The whole thing measures 16 inches long with the ivory handle measuring in at 9 1/4 inches. The carving is heavy and ornate. There is a small crack at the bottom on the backside of the ivory. And it is very slightly loose at the attachment. If you need more photos I can provide them. There is a hook at the back of the brass pan I assume was for hanging. It appears to have come unsoldered there at one point although it is still functional. I have seen a photo of a very similar pan iron in an antique price guide priced at 1,200.00 and that ivory handle was only 5 or 6 inches long. Mine is much larger. A very unique item!!....(Texas residents please add 8.25% sales tax. Priority shipping upon zip code. Insurance is required for 10.20. No handeling fees on U.S. orders!!)
