Description:
A really quite wonderful English desk-top writing box or caddy with two cut out slots to the top leading to separate compartments, one for " Answered " letters and the other for " Unanswered ". Made from walnut with wonderful figuring and a nice glossy patina, the top has a nice solid brass trim to match the two engraved plaques together with the circular escutcheon and vacant cartouche. Complete with a working lock and taselled key. Dating to around 1890 / 1900, late Victorian or early Edwardian in era, it remains in excellent condition, measuring 9 1/2" x 4 1/2" x 4" tall. T is an old age / grain hairline from one of the cut-outs to the edge, quite normal and insignificant but mentioned and photographed for accuracy. Worldwide insured airmail included.
