Description:
This is an American Bracket Clock made by the Seth Thomas Company. The Clock is Mahogany and has a lovely Deep Mahogany Patina. The Seth Thomas Company is one of America's oldest clock makers. Seth Thomas was born in Wolcott, Connecticut in 1785, went to work for clockmaker Eli Terry in 1807, bought out Terry’s factory (together with Silas Hoadley) in 1810, and in December 1813 bought out Heman Clark’s clock making business in Plymouth Hollow. In 1853 Mr. Thomas incorporated the Seth Thomas Clock Company, so that the business would outlive him. Mr. Thomas died in 1859, and Plymouth Hollow was renamed Thomaston in his honor in 1865. He spent a life time creating beautiful clocks. This one is a fine example. It has a sleek Case with a Domed Cornice. Pronounced Molding frames the top. It has a Plinth Base. The Dial is protected by a Hinged Convex Glazed Door which is framed in Brass. The Dial is Metal with a white painted ground. The numerals and hands are black. This Clock has two Winding Holes in it's Face. One is for the movement and the other for the Bell. There is a small Hole at the center for adjusting the speed. It has "s" one one side for slow and "f" on the other for fast. The Dial has Seth Thomas stamped above the Hands. The Back has a Door held in place by a Sliding Hinge. Removing the Door reveals the gorgeous Spring Driven Clock Movement. This is a beautiful piece of Americana. It will be a lovely addition to any room of your home. We have many more photos of it. Please contact us and we will be happy to send them to you.
