Description: We purchased this remarkably lovely English Victorian Bookcase in Oxford, England. It is made of Oak and has a Deep Oak Patina. It is quite masculine and stately in appearance. It is in good condition. The design of the rear of the Cabinet indicates that it might have once been built into a residence. The top of the Cabinet overhangs the base at the back. The Bookcase has a beautifully pronounced Cornice. It is deeply moulded. A row of Large Beading flows across the center of the Frieze below. The Double Doors have an unusual design. Each of the Glazed Doors are divided into Two Panels which are framed in Oak. The inside panes are made of an elegant Crystal Pattern Textured Glass. Each Glass Panel is framed around it's perimeter with a lovely Pattern of Beading. The Doors open to reveal an interior fitted with Two Long Shelves. A large collection of books can be stored here. The top of Base has Beading carved around the edge. The base of the Bookcase consists of Two Drawers over Two Doors. The facades of the Drawers are chamfered around the perimeter. They have beautifully carved Dove Tail Joints which indicate a fine cabinet maker. Beading flows between the Drawers and Doors. The Doors are made in Sunken Center Panel Design. Their Center Panels too, are framed by gorgeous Beading. The Doors open to reveal a large, functional interior with a Long Shelf flowing across the center. The Hardware is all original. This includes the intricate Back Plates and Drop Pulls. The Bookcase stands upon Baluster Turned Legs. This is a magnificent English Victorian Library Cabinet/ Bookcase. It will add a stately elegance to your study. It is also incredibly functional.
