Description:
~In the mid-1800s when oak furniture was just beginning to become popular, the dark woods (mahogany, walnut, and rosewood) were considered to be the "rich peoples' furniture". As American oak furniture ascended to first place in popularity in about 1880, the makers of this oak furniture also created a limited number of mahogany pieces that were identical to those that were made of oak. This bookcase is possibly one of those items. ~~From one of the states of the Northeast comes this very beautiful 2-Door Mahogany Bookcase. Crowned by a centered oval beveled mirror (original silver date Jan. 20, 1898) that is flanked on either side by shapely candlestands, this lovely bookcase is fitted with a maple back. The contrast of the red mahogany wood with the yellow maple is very striking! Two fancy, serpentine drawers below complete this beautiful bookcase. This item has been refinished and is ready for your lovely home.
