Description:
This is a wonderful example of folk art from around 1800, from Mittel Europa, Southern Germany or Bohemia. The Corpus is hand-carved from bone and has been missing his left hand for many many years. It measures 4.75 inches long and lies on a brown velvet backing. The frame is hand carved oak relief and shows intricately carved roses and leaves. You can see from the photo the back has been sealed a long long time ago and I haven't opened it. On the right hand side of the frame there was a slight worm intrusion amounting to approx. 22 holes (no longer active). This is a stunning and very lovely devotional piece.
Inquiries and extra photo requests very welcome.
