Description:
Here is a very attractive, primitive water boiler in Very Good + condition and made by J. M’Connell. The lid has an embossed patent date of May 23, 1876 - Cleveland, Ohio. Included with the kettle is a spout strainer with the patent date of 1896. This kettle is very interesting in it’s construction because of the inner shelf that is built into the kettle. The handle for the lid is a comfortable 1 1/8” in width and is nicely finished with a rolled over edge - the lid does have an area of rust thru to the lip but this area is not visible when the lid is in place and it has no effect on the function of the kettle. The kettle also features a nice copper bottom. There is one dent to the base as pictured and the kettle does have 2 pin hole sized holes near the base seem which could easily be repaired. This scarce kettle would be the perfect addition to any primitive kitchen utensil collection and would work perfectly in any historical re-enactment situation pertaining to the late 1800’s.
