Mrs. Hoover's Colonial Quilt,a design similar to the double IRISH CHAIN. At an exhibition of handicrafts of the neighborhood women held in 1925 at the NEIGHBORHOOD HOUSE, a social settlement in Washington, D.C., Mrs. Herbert Hoover, the wife of the U.S. President, so admired the original quilt that she ordered an exact copy to be presented to her son as a wedding gift. The pattern came to be known as MRS. HOOVER'S COLONIAL QUILT, (ref: The Collector's Dictionary of Quilt Names & Patterns, by Yvonne M. Khin, publ. 1980). Most desirable colors; blue & white, with finely quilted feathers and wreaths (9 stitches per inch), all hand stitched, hand washed and in excellent original condition, circa 1925. 90"x74".
