Description: HAND COLORED ENGRAVED PLATES are from the a first 8vo edition (1842-1850) of the work entitled Coloured Illustrations of British Birds and Their Eggs by Henry Leonard Meyer. APPROX PAGE SIZE 8.1/2" x 5.1/4" (215 x 134 )NOTE THE ENLARGED PICTURE IS GREATER THAN ACTUAL SIZE BUT IT SHOWS THE QUALITY AND BEAUTY OF EACH BIRD Meyer was a recognized Dutch artist and naturalist. His ornithological drawings were made from nature as well as his own collection of birds. Meyer's wife aided in the engraving and possibly the actual original drawings. This work is well-known for it's beatuy: "With the possible exception of Lord Lilford's Birds, this is the finest and most complete atlas of portraits of British avifauna (with their eggs) ever published", Wood p.462. THESE BIRD PLATES ARE OVER 150 YEARS OLD AND NOT MODERN COPIES .
