Description:
A unique vase in the "Amazonia" line made from coloured flexible polyurethane resin by Fish Design Srl (Italy).
The vase is signed "FISH DESIGN Serie 2007". HISTORY: Fish Design was born in New York in 1995 out of an idea of legendary Italian architect, designer, and sculptor Gaetano Pesce (b. 1939), who used coloured and translucent resins to create a collection of vases, trays, mirrors, etc. that he produced through to 1999.
Then, a long hiatus followed resulting in no production. In 2003, after a year of negotiations, Pesce teamed up with Andrea Corsi, a businessman and designer, to re-establish Fish Design as a company in Milan, Italy.
Three others have joined this team since: Viviana Carini (b. 1981), Matteo Pellegrino (b. 1982), and Caterina Zunino. As Pesce himself noted: “Fish Design is a polyhedric collection of artefacts ... each one different from the next. The creativity of the craftsman, the unpredictability of the fluids and the opportunity to insert variables from the choice of colour to the distribution of the materials, are some of the paths to obtaining the diversity and uniqueness of a Fish Design object.”
Pesce himself is considered as one of the original pioneers of Pop design. With his unorthodox approach, he has become one of the leading proponents of the Radical Design movement, which opposed purely functional design and traditional good taste and replaced it with revolutionary furniture design. He has always been more interested in an object’s meaning than its function.
