Description:
Great high style Aesthetic Victorian side cabinet with
a black lacquer finish. There is a fancy spindled gallery going
around the top. There are two small drawers on each side with inlaid
fronts and original brass pulls. The center door has an arched
beveled mirror surrounded by a band of marquetry and spindled
decoration on the bottom. There are two shelves on either side with
a recessed original beveled mirror and spindles around the bottom.
The interior is all birdseye maple and has two shelves. Above the
door there is a floral inlay that is very similar to Fig. 104, page
219 of "Herter Brothers Furniture and Interiors for a Gilded Age"
Published by Harry N. Abrams. This piece is certainly of Herter
quality and design but with no more to go on we can't make a definite
attribution. An important cabinet!
