Description: This rosewood sofa was made by the most innovative Victorian furniture maker of his time, John Henry Belter. He patented his system for laminating 7 layers of rosewood which allowed him to bend and carve wood without fear of breaking or splitting. This sofa was carved in the Rosalie without grapes pattern and is beautifully executed. The flowers, fruits and leaves are deeply carved. The frame and finish is in excellent condition. The curved back, flowing arms, serpentine seat and arched crest makes this sofa exude grace. This sofa is the finest example of Rococo Victorian by the most significant cabinet maker of the time.
