Held in private collection, the condition of this pair remains unchanged from the time of their original 1940's field acquisition. Blandin indicates that objects of this form were likely very early trade items cast in Europe from molds created from earlier indigenous sets found among the Akan and early Baule/Akan. All bells retain their original iron rattle pebbles and continue to produce a delightful tinkling sound. Minute, intricate designs are brought to life by a heavy encrustation that suggests lengthy burial and sacrificial libations - a truly spectacular set !
Please to fully appreciate this remarkable pair!
