Description: An albumenized (non-matte) salt contact print made from a wet collodion glass plate. This is one of 1500 detailed photographs of a new wing of the Louvre, which were made by Edouard-Denis Baldus (French 1820-1882) under a commissioned by the Comité des Monuments Historiques. Baldus was a central figure in the early development of French photography who participated in the Heliographic Mission to photograph historic French buildings during the mid-1850s.

CONDITION: A crease at the top left, extending in about 3/4 inch at the center; a very small chipped crease lower right which has been flattened and repaired with archival mending tape and is literally imperceptible. Otherwise, excellent.
