Description:
This elegant Empire period silver rectangular box features chamfered corners. The lid is surmounted by an naturalistic bird finial with puffed out chest and wings spread, reminiscent of a finch. A basket-weave band runs around the edge of the lid and the base of the box. The box is raised on four monopodium legs with bun feet. Stamped with the Austrian hallmark, D for Brno, Austria (now Czech Republic), 1811. The number 13 indicates a fineness of .812. There is also an unidentified maker's mark.
Size: 3.75" (9.5cm) H to the top of the bird, 2.75" (7cm) W x 2.25" (5.7cm) D; 3" (7.6cm) x 2.75" (7cm) leg spread
