Numbered, titled, signed and dated in pencil along lower margin: "33/75 Death and the Soldier Martin Silverman 11/4/64". Death and the Soldier based on "A Soldier's Song" by B. Brecht. Dimensions: Print: 4 x 6in. Mat: 12 1/2 x 14 1/2in. (Box F) Condition: Attached to backing board with tape at upper corners recto. Slight darkening to paper throughout. Otherwise, excellent condition overall. Artist's Biography: SILVERMAN, Martin (1950). Martin Silverman is a native New Yorker. He attended the High School of Music & Art, was awarded a scholarship to the Philadelphia College of Art and received a B.F.A. from that institution. He continued his printmaking studies at the Pratt Graphics Arts Center in Manhattan.In his junior year at PCA, Martin Silverman created print editions and started selling them at William Blood Galleries. The artist has had many one-man shows. These include shows at the Hudson River Museum, Yonkers, NY, and the South Street Seaport Museum, Manhattan. He has participated in numerous group shows. His work has been exhibited at galleries in New York, Philadelphia, Fort Worth, Seattle, Halifax, and London, England among others. Martin Silverman's work is represented in the permanent collections of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Hudson River Museum, the New York Public Library Print Collection, Nassau Community College (Purchase Award) and the Museum of Fine Arts in Elath, Israel, as well as several corporate collections among them IBM. As printmaker, illustrator and book designer, Martin Silverman has been commissioned to do fine print editions for Associated American Artists, Inc., Editions 260 of the Book-of-the-Month Club, and The Original Print Collectors Group. He has illustrated several books including "Prayers from the Bible" (Golden Press), "For One Another"(Union of American Hebrew Congregations), "Recipes from America's Restored Villages" (Doubleday), and numerous magazines articles. His design for "Selected Poems, Chaim Nachman Bialik" (UAHC), was selected by the American Institute of Graphic Arts as one of the 50 best books of the year. [Source: ]
