Description: This is a nice smaller sized antique set of pipe thread cutting dies, including the threader and several sets of adjustable dies including 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 3/4", 1", 1 1/2" dies, and that is more dies than the original set included as there is a cast metal rack on the left side of the wood box for holding 4 sets of dies in place. Also included is two pipe handles for the threader, some extra nut and bolts, two wrenches, and six different sized ring guides. The threader is marked "F. ARMSTRONG BRIDGEPORT CT. 2" and is in very good condition with some oil residue, but generally very clean, nice quality casting, and a nice logo near the threaded area on the right side. The dies have good thread leads and cutting areas, but they show there age and show signs of being a bit brital as there are small chips off most of them, still useable, the chips are mostly on the back end or on the opposite side of the lead threads. The threader is 10" long overall without the handles, they are 13" long overall each. The box is lap jointed in the corner, made of oak, has a black finish on it, a few chip off areas are small and don't effect the strength of the box. The brass hinges and latch is in good shape. The top lid is solid with two tongue and groove ends. All appears original, some stains from oil cans and some scratches, mostly minor considering the environment this tool was used in. The box is 4.37 x 7.7 x 14.5". A nice old set F. Armstrong Mfg. Co. was in business from 1875-1922 according to research. A rarely seen example!
