Description: This spectacular WEDDING ARMOIRE was made in France circa 1876. We purchased it in Paris, France. The Armoire is made of is made of Walnut with Oak Accents. It has a rich, Golden Medium Walnut Patina. This is a French Provincial WEDDING Armoire. It would have been presented to a bride and groom as a wedding gift by family members upon their wedding. A Cabinet Maker would have been commissioned to create the piece. The Wedding Date is carved into the Frieze at the top of the piece (dated 1876). The carving is embellished by decorative nails. This rich provenance adds to the value of the piece. The Armoire is in very good condition. This is a Double Door Armoire. The Double Doors are made in an opulent Sunken Panel Design. There are three Panels flowing down each door. Each panel is framed by a beautifully carved scalloping, moulding. Decorative Nails embellish the Doors. Above the Top Panel is a exquisite, delicately carved Flower. One feature which reveals the high quality of this fine period Armoire is the spectacular hardware on the Doors. Long, intricate, Hinges connect the Doors to the Armoire. The Key Plates are incredible. They flow down over half of the length of the Door in a sumptuous Scroll Work Pattern. The Armoire also comes with its' original Lock and Skeleton Key. The Doors open to reveal a functional interior fitted with two Long Shelves. A Drawer draws out from beneath the Lower Shelf. Reeded Carving frames the Doors on the outside of the Armoire. The Armoire is raised upon Stile Feet. The sides of the piece are also made in a Sunken Panel Design. These are divided into quarters. This is a rare, French Country Wedding Armoire. It is incredibly elegant.
