Description: This unusual Armoire / Bookcase/ Wine Cupboard was made in France circa 1920. We purchased it in the Brittany Region of France, just West of Paris. The piece is made of Oak. It has a rich, Deep Oak Patina. The peice has a French Baroque Design. It is profusely carved and is in very good condition. Along the top is a deeply pronounced, Pediment. A Band of Fluted Carving runs just below the Pediment. The piece has a lovely Display Area at the top. The Display Area has aan ornate, scalloping Gallery framing it. The Display Area opens up endless possibilities for the use of this striking piece. It would be a gorgeous Wine Cabinet. Stemware and martini glasses could be displayed above while opening the piece reveals a beautifully fitted interior for storing your wine and liqueur collection. This masculine Baroque Carving creates the possibility of the piece to be used as a Bookcase for a gentleman's' formal library. This piece has the influence of the Brittany Region in each nuance of its carving. The Double Doors are spectacularly carved, with a Vertical Row of Medallion Blocks embellishing them. The Central Panel is carved with a Ships Wheel, complete with Turned Spindles. The Top and Bottom Panels have a Patera Rosette at the Center of a complex Circular Carving, with Patera at the corners. The Doors open to reveal a beautifully fitted interior with a Two Adjustable Shelves the Right Hand Side and one on the Left. The Shelves can be moved to either side. There is a Clothing Rail at the top of the Right Hand Side. The Shelves have a spectacular Pattern of Geometric Parquetry Banding embellishing their fronts. The Central Fixed Panel between the Doors is beautifully carved with a fine Diamond Cut Geometric Pattern. A delightfully Scalloping Apron runs between the Stile Feet. The piece comes with all of its' original hardware. This includes the intricate Hinges, Scroll Work Escutcheons, Locks and Skeleton Keys. If you have been searching for a very fine Period Armoire with an unusual design, this French Baroque Breton one is quite rare. It will grace your home with the fabulous Provincial elegance of the Brittany Region of France.
